HANP Strategic Plan 2007

HANP Mission:

HANP is the resource for advanced practice nurses in the Houston area. We support professional collaboration, education, networking, and legislative awareness.

HANP Vision:

To inspire and lead advanced practice nurses to pursue active participation in their professional practice.

HANP Goals:

Goal 1: Recruitment & Retention
Mission: To increase and retain membership.
Strategies:
Establish a recruitment and retention committee by January, 2007
Survey members to determine the needs and wants for the organization
Actions:
BoD will appoint the chairperson of recruitment and retention committee
Create survey by April, 2007
Accountability: BoD and Recruitment and Retention Committee

Goal 2: Professional Advanced Practice Nurse Visibility
Mission: To promote the visibility of advanced practice nurses to consumers and providers.
Strategies:
Announce HANP website feature at each HANP monthly meeting
BoD will support community relations committee to establish 2 goals per year
Community Relations Committee to develop HANP business cards
Actions (by August, 2007):
Distribute HANP business cards to the BoD and make available to membership
Community Relations Committee will establish two goals per fiscal year
Accountability: BoD and Community Relations Committee

Goal 3: Promote Education
Mission: To provide CME/CEU educational opportunities and dinner programs
Strategies:
Education committee establishes one CME/CEU conference/workshop biannually
Education committee continues monthly sponsored educational meetings
Actions:
Education committee will coordinate all educational activities for fiscal year 2007/2008.
Host a CME/CEU conference for fiscal year 2007-2008.
Accountability: BoD and Educational Committee

Goal 4: To provide funding for the scholarship program
Mission: HANP will provide 2 scholarships for advanced practice nurse students
Strategies:
Scholarship committee will develop ad hoc committees to develop and execute fundraising activities (i.e., silent auction at a CME/CEU conference hosted by HANP)
Action:
Scholarship committee will have at least one activity per fiscal year in order to fund scholarships
Accountability: BoD, Treasurer, Scholarship committee

    Educational Programs Committee
    Mission: To provide monthly educational programs for HANP members
    One year goal:
  • Update Sponsor list
  • Begin the planning phase for CME/CEU conference
    Two-Three year goal:
  • Annual CME program hosted by HANP

  • Educational Committee Chair

    Legislative Committee
    Mission: To promote and increase legislative awareness for HANP members
    One year goal:
  • To market legislative day by promoting 5% of HANP membership to attend
  • Invite state legislators to speak at a HANP meeting
    Two-Three year goal:
  • Establish annual fundraising events to support TNP and CNAP lobbyist
    Accountability:

    Scholarship Committee
    Mission: Provide two advanced practice nurse scholarships, one masters and one doctoral candidate
    One year goal:
  • Provide the first scholarship award to deserving recipients
    Two-Three year goal:
  • Funding scholarship awards will be self-sufficient

    Community Relations Committee
    Mission: To promote visibility of advanced practice nurses
    One year goal:
  • Participate in the muscular dystrophy telethon
  • Create a public service announcement and/or press release
  • Increase visibility during NP week
    Two-Three year goal:
  • Establish an annual presence in community activities (e.g., art car parade, AHA walk-a-thons, telethons)

  • Community Relations Committee Chair

    Web Site Committee
    Mission: Ensures that the web site provides an avenue for communication and acts as a resource for all HANP members
    One year goal:
  • Educate members on web site
  • Create “how to use” web site pamphlet
  • Announce web site features at monthly meetings beginning September, 2006
    Two-Three year goal:
  • Professional management of web site

    Recruitment and Retention Committee
    Mission: To increase and retain membership
    One year goal:
  • Develop a survey to determine members’ wants and needs for the organization
  • Establish a welcoming committee to be present at every meeting
  • Address new members at each meeting and introduce them to members
    Two-Three year goal:
  • Develop strategies for re-activating the inactive members and recruiting new members to the organization (e.g., presentation to local advanced practice nurse schools of nursing – UT, TWU, Prairie View A&M; make contacts with university APN programs)
